MTNA -Michigan Competitions
The MTNA Performance Competitions are among the most prestigious competition events with Michigan as one of the largest and most competitive nationally.
MTNA Michigan Competitions
Michigan Music Teachers Association is proud to support this important National event. Your membership is important to support all MMTA programs and events including your annual conference, state webinars, and local association activities for professional development. Additionally, MMTA provides student programs including state examinations through our Student Achievement Testing, competitions, and awards.
Divisions include Junior, Senior, and Young Artist.
Instruments include brass, piano, piano duet, string, voice, and woodwind.
Young Artist Chamber Ensemble String and Wind performance competitions are two-tier events with National entries due around December 1. Registration date not yet officially announced.
MTNA Stecher and Horowitz Two Piano Award is a two-tier event. MTNA opens registration around September 1 with registration and recordings due around January 1. Registration date not yet officially announced.
The MTNA Competition website includes guidelines, eligibility, requirements, and program samples. The Michigan Music Teachers Association, MTNA page includes past winners, programs, and current information, i.e., official hotel, schedule, etc. as it becomes available.

NEW: Ebony Music Prize
Awards for best performance of a work by a Black composer will be provided by Ebony Music Inc.: Junior Piano, $500; Senior Piano, $750; Young Artist Piano, $1,000. Visit the Ebony Music website for suggested repertoire. Note this list is not exhaustive. Entrants may select pieces by other Black composers.
NEW: Chopin Prize
Chopin Prize: Best Chopin Performance given by the Chopin Foundation of the U.S.: Junior Piano, $500 cash award: Senior Piano, $1,000 cash award.
